Seasons of Song

Seasons of Song
On the 24th August at 7pm, Lily Robson will be returning to St. Andrew’s, along with pianist Charles Matthews to perform a vocal recital on a theme of the Seasons. It will include music for voice and piano, with a particular focus on twentieth-century British composers, interspersed with instrumental piano music (performed by Charles) and clarinet and piano (performed by Shottery’s own Larry and Rosemary Robson). This event will not be ticketed but there will be a retiring collection (of which all profits go to the church) and refreshments available afterwards. There will also be a programme notes booklet available for £2, which will allow you to follow the order of the programme, and read the poetry and texts of each song (with translations where relevant).

Lily is student of musicology and vocal studies, who grew up in Stratford and in the community of Shottery St. Andrews. Her parents, Larry and Rosemary (also partaking in the concert), are also musicians who have worked for St. Andrew’s music department over the last 20 years. In 2019, Lily moved to London to study music at King’s College London, where she graduated in 2022 with first class honours. Aside from solo work, she adores choral music and recorded four discs with the Choir of King’s College London under Delphian Records. Most recently this included a CD of music by Kerensa Briggs, on which she featured as a soloist for the Windsor Service. She is currently based in York, where she is a choral scholar at York Minster, and studying for her Master’s in musicology at the University of York.

Charles Matthews is a pianist and organist, working extensively as a soloist, accompanist and tutor. He has won numerous awards, including first and second prizes in international piano and organ competitions in Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. His most recent CD recording is of works by Francis Routh. He works as a tutor and accompanist at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and is organist St Catharine's Church, Chipping Campden.

We do hope you’ll be able to join us!
